Online Quran Classes for Beginners: What Your First Week Looks Like

Starting online Quran classes from zero, for your child or for yourself? Here is what actually happens in the free trial and the first week, what to prepare, and how the plans work.

By Online Quran Classes Team · Published · 5 min read

Many people put off Quran classes because they are not sure what the first lesson will be like. Parents wonder whether a young child can sit through a video lesson. Adults worry about starting from the alphabet, or about being corrected by a teacher. These are normal concerns, and a clear picture of the first week usually settles them.

This guide walks through our online Quran classes from the first message to the end of week one. It is written for parents in the USA and for adult learners, but the steps are the same wherever you live.

Before the first class: what to have ready

You do not need special equipment. A quiet corner and a few minutes of setup are enough:

  • A device with a camera and microphone. A laptop or tablet is easiest to read from; a phone works too. Classes are on Zoom, which is free.
  • Headphones, if the house is busy, so the teacher hears every letter clearly.
  • A time you can keep. Book the trial at the slot you plan to use every week, so you test the real routine.
  • For young children, a parent nearby. Sitting in on the first lessons helps a child settle and lets you see how the teacher works.

If you are not sure of the level, that is fine. Working that out is part of the trial.

The 3-day free trial

Every new student starts with a 3-day free trial. There is no card to enter and no advance payment; you pay only after the trial, and only if you decide to continue.

In the first trial class the teacher gets to know the student and checks the level. For a complete beginner that may simply mean seeing which Arabic letters, if any, are familiar. For someone who already reads a little, the teacher listens to a few lines and notes which sounds need work. The next two trial classes are normal lessons, so you see what regular classes feel like, not a sales pitch.

At the end of the trial the teacher suggests a starting course and a sensible pace. You can ask questions, change the time or ask for a different teacher, including a female teacher, before choosing a plan.

Your first week of lessons, day by day

Each class is one-on-one and lasts 30 minutes. A typical first week for a beginner looks like this:

  1. Lesson 1: the first letters of the Arabic alphabet, how each one sounds and how it is written, using the Noorani Qaida.
  2. Lesson 2: a quick review, then a few more letters. The teacher listens closely to letters English speakers often mix up.
  3. Lesson 3: letters that look alike but sound different, and the first short vowel marks.
  4. Lessons 4 and 5: joining letters into simple sounds, with plenty of repetition and gentle correction.

Students who choose weekends or fewer days cover the same steps at a pace that suits their schedule. Beginners start with our Noorani Qaida course, which builds the sounds and rules step by step, then move on to Quran reading classes once they can join letters confidently.

Kids and adults: what is different

Children, usually from around age 4 or 5, do best with short, lively lessons, lots of praise and a parent close by. A few minutes of practice each day, such as reading the last lesson aloud before dinner, helps more than a long session once a week. Each month, parents receive a progress report showing what was covered and what to practise next.Adults often feel shy at first, especially when starting from the alphabet. One-on-one classes help, because no one else is listening and the teacher goes at your pace. Many adults choose an early morning or late evening slot around work. It is never too late to start; the first goal is simply reading the letters correctly.

Choosing your days, and what it costs

We teach 24/7, 7 days a week, so you can pick a time in your own time zone and choose your days: Monday–Friday, weekends, 3 days a week or whatever suits you. Our listed prices are for Monday–Friday plans, with 20 one-on-one classes a month, 30 minutes each, and they are the same for every course and age:

  • Flex Monthly: $45 a month.
  • Half-Year Saver: $40 a month, billed $240 every 6 months.
  • Annual Best Value: $35 a month, billed $420 a year.

For weekends, longer classes or a different number of days, message our team and we’ll work out the fee for your schedule. There is no extra charge for a female teacher, and siblings each keep their own one-on-one class. The full details are on our fees and plans page.

After the first week

Once the basics are steady, most beginners move from Qaida to reading the Quran itself, then to Tajweed. Some later go on to memorize surahs in our Hifz program. There is no fixed timetable; the teacher sets the pace from what the student can do comfortably.

US families can see class times by time zone on our online Quran classes in the USA page. Our team is available 24/7 and replies within 1-2 minutes. You can also email info@onlinequranclasses.net or call +1 (380) 206-9388.
