Most families who ask about our hifz program are not ready to talk about the whole Quran yet. They want a child, or themselves, to memorize the short surahs properly: correct pronunciation, steady rhythm and no forgetting after a month. That is exactly what Juz Amma memorization classes are for.
Juz Amma runs from Surah An-Naba to Surah An-Nas. Every class is live and one-on-one on Zoom, so the teacher hears each verse, corrects it on the spot and sets a lesson the student can really hold. It is part of our online Quran classes and costs the same as every other course.
Why start memorization with Juz Amma
- Short surahs: many are only a few lines, so beginners feel progress early.
- Used every day: these surahs are the ones most often recited in Salah, so they are revised naturally.
- A training ground: students learn the daily routine of new lesson, recent revision and older revision before the load grows.
- Tajweed in practice: rules like Qalqalah, Ghunnah and Madd appear again and again in these surahs.
For many students Juz Amma is a goal in itself. For others it is the first step of a full Hifz. Either way, the method is the same one used in our Hifz program online.
Is your child ready to memorize?
There is no single right age. What matters more is whether the student can follow the teacher and repeat a verse accurately. As a rough guide:
| Student | Usual starting point |
|---|---|
| Young child who cannot read yet | Memorizes by listening and repeating, a little at a time, while learning the letters in Noorani Qaida. |
| Child who reads with help | Reads the verse with the teacher, then memorizes it, so reading and memorization grow together. |
| Fluent reader, child or adult | Memorizes directly from the Mushaf with Tajweed correction from the first lesson. |
The free trial includes a level check, so you do not need to decide this alone.
If your child is still on the alphabet, read our guide to online Quran classes for kids as well.
Which surahs come first?
Most teachers start from the end of the Mushaf and work backwards: An-Nas, Al-Falaq, Al-Ikhlas, Al-Masad and so on, because the last surahs are the shortest. Some students begin with surahs they already half-know from Salah, such as Al-Kawthar or Al-Asr, to build confidence. Longer surahs at the start of the Juz, such as An-Naba and An-Nazi’at, usually come last.
Your teacher chooses the order for your level and tells you in advance what the next surah will be, so you can listen to it at home first.
A daily routine that makes it stick
Juz Amma students follow the same three-part rhythm as Hifz students, just with smaller amounts:
| Part of the lesson | What it means | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Sabaq (new lesson) | A few new verses, read with the teacher until correct, then recited from memory. | Three to five verses of a new surah. |
| Sabqi (recent revision) | The surahs learned in the last days, recited together. | Yesterday’s and the day before’s verses. |
| Manzil (older revision) | A rotating set of surahs learned earlier. | Two or three earlier surahs each day. |
These amounts are only an example; the teacher sets each lesson for the student.
Between classes, five to ten minutes of practice is enough for most children: reciting the new verses twice, and the revision once, to a parent or sibling.
How parents can help at home
- Keep the class at the same time each day so it becomes routine.
- Ask your child to recite the new verses to you before bedtime.
- Use the surahs in family prayers, so they are heard and recited often.
- Celebrate each finished surah, and read the monthly progress report together.
Parents are welcome to sit in on any class, and many do during the first weeks.
After Juz Amma: the full Hifz program
When Juz Amma is strong, some students move on to Juz 29 and beyond and join our full online Hifz program. Others keep revising Juz Amma while they focus on reading or Tajweed. There is no pressure either way, and the fee does not change. If school or work leaves little time, see our part-time Hifz program guide, and for the bigger picture read how to memorize the Quran.
